Already at the age of 8, I was passionate about the nature around me. I grew up in Beerse in the Kempen, in a forest and heathland-rich area that was ultimately lost as I transitioned into adulthood. This deeply affected me, as I felt powerless against the profit-driven economy and the rapid decline of biodiversity.
At 17, I became an active member and chairman of the local JNM (Youth for Nature and Environment), hoping to provide other young people with insight and to form a small front against the system—a voice for the biodiversity of the Kempen. Amphibian migrations, work camps in various nature reserves, nature studies, campaigns for reducing meat consumption and production, promoting recycled paper—these were all causes that shaped my life until I was 26, thanks to the support within this youth movement.

I met many people there who are now leaders in Natuurpunt, both regionally and nationally. Over the next three decades, my passion for biodiversity and environmental conservation only grew stronger. In addition to studying bird songs, butterflies, and mushrooms, I also focused on the importance of organic food.
With great pride, I now contribute as a director to the restoration of a private nature reserve in the Netherlands. Another passion became discovering the hidden gems of our unique planet—traveling, traveling, and more traveling. This provided me with incredible insights that I love to share with others. For years, I have been a passionate nature guide in both Belgium and abroad, offering courses on the bird sounds and songs of Western Europe, mushrooms of sandy soils, butterflies of Western Europe, and atmospheric evening walks in the Kempen spring.
